Add the Church Misconduct Database preview search to your website, safeguarding page, or organisation portal — completely free.
The information in the Church Misconduct Database is compiled from publicly available sources. We believe that data which is already in the public domain should be accessible to everyone — not scattered across dozens of disconnected websites, or buried in archives that only specialists know how to search.
That's why we provide a free public API and embeddable search widgets at no cost. Any church, charity, safeguarding team, denominational body, news outlet, or community organisation can add the CMD search to their own website in minutes. The more places this information is available, the harder it becomes for patterns of misconduct to go unnoticed.
Registered access unlocks full record details, source documentation, and advanced filtering — but the preview search is free to use and free to embed, with no API key required and no usage fees.
No API keys, no sign-up, no fees. The public search endpoint is open to everyone and always will be.
Two lines of code to add the widget to any website. Works with WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, and custom sites.
Every site that embeds the widget extends the reach of the database, helping more people access information that matters.
The recommended approach. The widget renders natively on your page, inherits your site's context, and supports light/dark themes with custom accent colours.
The simplest option — fully sandboxed with no JavaScript integration needed. Works anywhere you can paste HTML, including CMS platforms like WordPress, Squarespace, and Wix.
This is exactly what the widget looks like when embedded on a third-party site. Type a name, denomination, or location to see preview results.
The embed widget connects to the CMD public search API. When a visitor types 3 or more characters, the widget queries the database and returns up to 10 matching records showing only the name, denomination, and diocese/area — no further details are revealed.
Each result set includes a link to register for full access, turning the widget into a lead generation tool for your safeguarding efforts while providing genuine transparency value to visitors.
The API is rate-limited to 30 requests per minute per visitor. No authentication is required to use the widget, and no personal data is collected from your site visitors.
The widget makes no tracking requests, sets no cookies on your visitors' devices, and collects no personal data. It simply queries the public API and displays results.
Because the widget queries the live database, your visitors always see the latest records — no manual updates or syncing required on your end.
